Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department of Food Technology, Safety & Health

My research group encompasses several critical areas in food safety and health. We investigate the impact of microplastics and nanoplastics on microbial biofilm formation, toxin production and virulence, particularly focusing on pathogens like Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter jejuni, and  Bacillus cereus. Our work also delves into the bioenergetics of human cells in response to food (and environmental) contaminants and food compounds, examining how substances like mycotoxins and Bacillus cereus toxins affect cellular functions. Additionally, we explore innovative strategies to mitigate these risks, contributing significantly to the field of microbial and chemical food safety. I am president of International Committee of Food Microbiology and Hygiene, a member of Belgian and Serbian society of (food) microbiology and several other food-expertise based bodies.
