I am a plant biologist with broad interest in plant biotechnology. I am leading HortiCell, a research unit at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University. HortiCell performs research in plant tissue culture, plant biostimulants and sexual reproduction. The tissue culture subdivision of HortiCell investigates microspore embryogenesis to produce doubled haploid and the induction of adventitious rooting. The Biostimulant subdivision develops novel biostimulants based on extract from organic waste streams (Projects Bio2BIO, BIO4FOOD, ZEROWASTE), and the sexual reproduction division studies the impact of environmental stress (mainly heat) on fertility and meiosis.
